Merry Christmas! 2015

The Castle Family December 2015

Dear Family & Friends,

What a lovely time of year to celebrate what Christ has done for us! As we remember His birth, we are so blessed and have so much to be thankful for! Too many years have gone by since I last wrote a letter with our Christmas card photos, so I thought it was time to write again!

Not a whole lot has changed in the last few years as we are still at our same home. We have lived here now for 8 years (where has the time gone?). We still attend the Shelbyville Bible Holiness Church (www.ShelbyBHC.com) and love the church family and our pastor. Our church moved into our brand new building in June of 2014! We welcome any visitors in person or online. We also still have our pet dog, Peanut. We had a Julianna mini pig named Lola this summer for the kids, but she didn't work out for our family in town as well as we had hoped, so we found her another home. Each summer, we enjoy going to the Kansas State Holiness Association campmeeting and visiting my family in KS.

Trint, who still works from home most of the time, keeps very busy with his regular job, side jobs (currently a sub for driving school buses), Anderson Symphony Orchestra, Lafayette Symphony Orchestra, and doing lots of different jobs at our church! He loves spending time with the kids and does well keeping up with his work.

I, Janette, still work at home trying to keep up with 6 kids, a husband, home-schooling and church activities. (For our home-schooling, we have joined a Classical Conversations community for the last 2 1/2 years. Our boys were "Memory Masters" both years reciting all the information from the whole year.) There's not much time for me to play, but I like to spend time having fun with the kids and doing things for others.

Christopher, now 13 years old, is in 7th grade. He outgrew both of his parents and is nearing 6 feet tall! He loves to build things in the garage with wood or other scraps. He also loves to play basketball and his trumpet and does really well. He was so excited to be in the "Advanced Band" at Band Camp this summer. He still takes piano lessons. He loves his siblings and is a great help around the house and enjoys playing with his friends!

Blake, our 10-year-old, is in 5th grade and loves to try to keep up with Christopher in many things. Blake plays a trombone, recorder, tin whistle and piano. He was old enough this year to attend Band Camp and enjoyed playing his trombone in the "Cadet Band." He has become an expert at the Rubik's Cube, solving the whole thing in just a bit over a minute!

Lilly is 8 and is a big help to me around the house. She is in 2nd grade and does really well at reading to her sisters. She takes piano lessons and has learned a little on the violin.

Kaylee is our active 5-year-old who is in Kindergarten and doing well learning to read. She keeps us hopping as always, but usually has a brilliant smile and loves to dress up fancy. She also takes piano lessons and enjoys playing her tin whistle at church (the 4 oldest kids can play the tin whistle that they learned in school).

Melissa is already 3 years old! She keeps busy playing and likes to help me in the kitchen. She also loves playing on Daddy's Ipad! She gets really excited when she sees her good friend or her Grandma!

Emma, born on September 3rd, is a joy to all of us! She arrived so quickly that day, she didn't allow me time to get to the hospital, so she was born at home! She & I had our first ambulance ride to the hospital and then when she was 3 days old, we were in church on Sunday. She helps us smile with her smiles, laughs and learning new things!

We all love this season with the celebration of Christ's birth, and hope that it brings all of you good thoughts, good memories, and the hope of Heaven through His salvation!

Love to all,
The Trint Castle family

2014 Classical Conversations Memory Masters!

It has been 3 weeks since our boys each finished their school year with Classical Conversations doing their Memory Master work.  They had to say ALL of their memory work for the WHOLE YEAR in one sitting to both parents individually (very few mistakes allowed) and then to their tutor (had to be perfect) and then they were spot checked by their director (had to be perfect). It took about an hour or more for them to get through it all in each sitting!  Trint & I are very pleased with them and their hard work!  Below are some pictures I took of them today. Classical Conversations uses a lot of songs to memorize the information, so it actually is really not hard for kids to learn it all!

Here is what they learned (over 500 pieces of information!):
*161 events and people in a chronological timeline
*24 history sentences
*44 U.S. presidents
*Over 100 locations and geographic features in Europe, Asia and select parts of the world
*24 science facts
*Latin verb endings of the first conjugation
*English grammar facts
*Multiplication tables up to 15x15, common squares & cubes, as well as basic geometry formulas and unit conversions
*Plus, they practiced drawing techniques, had some music theory and learned to play a tin whistle, learned about 6 great artists, were introduced to orchestra and 3 classical composers, had 12 science experiments and several science projects and also gave 24 oral presentations!

Here are the kids testing their egg protectors that they made with
popsicle sticks, rubberbands, and napkins.

The kids in our Sunman group reciting some of their memory work.
Our kids enjoyed their time with their new friends and did really well learning so much so easily!
